Tiltable camera mount for commercial vehicles

A smart sheet metal design for maximum visibility and easy installation. A tiltable camera mount, developed entirely as a single parametric 3D model. From the first flat pattern to the complete mounting assembly: a considered design in which the sheet metal, the hinge mechanism, the fasteners, the camera and the LED work lamp are perfectly matched. Developed for fitting to trucks, vans, trailers and other commercial vehicles.

What you see

The camera mount consists of a compact welded sheet metal structure with an integrated tilt mechanism. It provides a stable mounting for a reversing camera and an LED work lamp, with a viewing angle that is easy to set for an optimal view behind the vehicle. Every part is designed with stiffness, straightforward manufacturing and quick installation in mind. Thanks to the parametric build-up, the structure can easily be adapted to different vehicle types and camera configurations.

  • Compact welded sheet metal structure
  • Tilt mechanism with adjustable viewing angle
  • Integrated mounting for a reversing camera and an LED work lamp
  • Easy installation on different vehicle types
  • Fully parametric 3D model

What happens technically

The mount positions the reversing camera at the optimal viewing angle, so the driver gets a clear image of the area behind the vehicle while reversing. The camera image is shown on a monitor in the cab, which makes safe maneuvering easier and considerably reduces the risk of collisions.

The integrated tilt mechanism allows the camera to be adjusted precisely during installation. Once set, the position is locked mechanically, so the chosen viewing angle is retained even under vibration, shocks and intensive daily use.

During engineering, particular attention went to the stiffness of the sheet metal structure, the freedom of movement of the hinge mechanism, protection of the camera against the weather, and easy fitting to different vehicle structures. The complete design was checked in 3D for fit, movement, assembly and manufacturability.

Where this approach pays off

Tiltable camera mounts are used on trucks, vans, trailers, off-road vehicles, agricultural machinery, construction machinery and other commercial vehicles where an optimal rearward view is essential to the safety of the driver and everyone around the vehicle.

Because the 3D model is built parametrically, dimensions, mounting points, camera types and viewing angles can easily be adapted to the specific requirements of each vehicle. New variants can therefore be developed quickly without reworking the entire design. This case study shows how a compact sheet metal assembly, combined with considered engineering and parametric 3D design, results in a robust, reliable and easily manufacturable solution for modern commercial vehicles.
